Power Transmission Sequence

Our mining conveyor gear reducer uses a two-stage planetary helical architecture. The first stage reduces speed using planetary gears (sun, planet and ring gear arrangement), which distributes load across multiple planet gears for exceptional durability. The second stage uses helical gears for smooth, quiet operation at high reduction ratios.

Start with three parameters: conveyor capacity (tons/hour), drive motor power (kW), and ambient temperature range. For most mining conveyors, a two-stage planetary helical gearbox with ratios between 1:20 and 1:100 provides optimal torque output and efficiency. Our engineering team provides full load calculations and selects based on your specific conveyor length, incline angle and material density — at no charge.
For standard mining conveyors, gear ratios between 1:20 and 1:80 are most common. Longer or steeper conveyors require higher ratios (1:60 to 1:100) to handle starting torque under full load. We calculate the required output torque by multiplying the conveyor's belt tension by the drum radius, then select a gearbox with at least a 1.5 service factor above the calculated load to account for shock loads and frequent starts.
In high-dust, high-vibration mining environments, we recommend oil analysis every 2,000 operating hours and full oil replacement every 8,000–12,000 hours. For underground operations below 5°C ambient, synthetic ISO VG 320 gear oil extends service intervals to 15,000+ hours.
