Conveyor Drive System Architecture

A mining conveyor is a capital-intensive system where the drive system determines both production throughput and equipment longevity. Our integrated drive packages are engineered as a system — not a collection of individually specified components.

Integrated Conveyor Drive System

A complete conveyor drive system has five critical subsystems that must work together: motor, gearbox, coupling, hold-back brake, and drive pulley. When these are specified as a matched system, the transition from motor torque to belt pulling force is optimized for efficiency, reliability and maintainability.

When components are specified independently, mismatches in mounting dimensions, torque capacity, thermal rating, or brake torque create hidden failure risks that only appear after installation.

Motor: Electric motor provides input power. For conveyors over 50kW, soft-start motor or VFD is specified to reduce belt shock during starting and control acceleration time.

Gearbox: Industrial gearbox reduces motor speed to belt speed while multiplying torque. Planetary-helical design for shock load resistance. Torque rating must exceed breakaway torque of loaded belt.

Coupling: Elastic or fluid coupling between motor and gearbox absorbs motor torque peaks and compensates for minor misalignment — protecting gearbox input bearings from premature failure.

Hold-Back Brake: One-way clutch mechanism prevents belt reversal on incline conveyors during power interruption. Critical safety component — belt reversal under load causes belt damage and creates safety hazard.

Remote commissioning via video call is sufficient for surface installations with competent mechanical contractors.
